NomadGuard Privacy Policy
Last updated: [2026-03-18]
This Privacy Policy describes how NomadGuard ("we", "our", or "the app") collects, uses, stores, and protects information when you use the NomadGuard mobile application. NomadGuard is designed for global use and is distributed in multiple regions. Please read this policy carefully.
1. INTRODUCTION AND SCOPE
NomadGuard is a stay and tax-residency awareness app that helps you track which country you are in, record entry and exit dates by country, and estimate days stayed for purposes such as tax residency rules (e.g. 183-day thresholds). The app is intended for use worldwide.
This policy applies to:
• The NomadGuard mobile application on iOS and Android.
• All data processed by the app on your device and, if you enable it, data synced to your own iCloud account (iOS only).
We do not operate a separate account or login system. Your data stays on your device and, optionally, in your own iCloud storage. We do not run analytics, advertising, or tracking SDKs in the app.
2. INFORMATION WE COLLECT AND WHY
2.1 Location-derived data
• What we collect: The app uses your device’s location (GPS and/or network) to determine your current country. We do not store raw GPS coordinates long-term. We use location only to derive the current country (e.g. ISO country code) and to create or update "stay" records (entry/exit by country).
• Why: To automatically record when you enter or leave a country, so the app can compute how many days you have stayed in each country and show you risk information (e.g. days remaining before a 183-day rule).
• How it works: Location is obtained via the operating system (iOS/Android). Country is derived from coordinates using the device’s geocoding capabilities. You can revoke location permission at any time in system settings; the app will then not be able to auto-record new entries.
2.2 Stay and footprint data
• What we collect: For each "stay" we store: country code, entry date/time, exit date/time (if you have left), and a source tag (e.g. automatic from GPS or manual). This forms your "footprint" history.
• Why: To calculate days stayed per country, to support tax-residency style rules (e.g. calendar year or rolling windows), and to generate reports (e.g. PDF) that you can export.
• Where it is stored: On your device in a local database. If you use iCloud sync (iOS only), a copy is stored in your own iCloud container so you can use the same data on other devices linked to your Apple ID. We do not have access to your iCloud data.
2.3 Settings and preferences
• What we collect: Your chosen "home country" (for tax exemption display), language preference, and which stay rule you select per country (e.g. which tax rule applies). These are stored locally and, if iCloud sync is on, in your iCloud.
• Why: To personalize the app (e.g. show "at home" when you are in your home country, and to apply the correct day limits and risk messaging).
2.4 Local notifications
• What we do: The app may request notification permission to send you local alerts (e.g. when you are approaching a stay limit in a country). Notifications are generated and delivered on your device; we do not send your data to a server to trigger them.
• Why: To remind you of residency-related risks. You can disable notifications in system settings.
2.5 PDF reports
• What we do: When you generate a report, the app creates a PDF on your device using your stay data and optional summaries (e.g. by country, by year). The PDF is only shared or saved by you; we do not receive or store it.
3. HOW WE USE YOUR INFORMATION
We use the information described above only to:
• Detect your current country and update your stay history.
• Compute days stayed and remaining under the rules you or the app have selected.
• Show you risk indicators (e.g. days left before a threshold).
• Store your preferences (home country, language, rules).
• Optionally sync data to your iCloud for your own backup and multi-device use.
• Generate local PDF reports when you request them.
• Send you local notifications if you have allowed them.
We do not use your data for advertising, profiling, or selling to third parties. We do not use analytics or crash-reporting SDKs that send personal data to us or to third parties.
4. LEGAL BASIS (FOR EEA/UK AND SIMILAR REGIONS)
If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or a jurisdiction that requires a legal basis for processing:
• Providing the app’s core features (stay tracking, calculations, alerts) is based on your use of the app and, where needed, your consent (e.g. for location and notifications).
• Storing data on your device and in your iCloud is necessary to perform our contract with you (providing the service) and for our legitimate interest in offering a functional app, while keeping data under your control.
• You may withdraw consent for location or notifications at any time via your device settings; the app will then operate with reduced functionality (e.g. no automatic country updates).
5. DATA STORAGE AND RETENTION
• On device: Stay records, settings, and rule preferences are stored in a local database on your device. They remain until you delete the app or clear its data (via system settings) or until you delete or edit records inside the app.
• iCloud (iOS, optional): If you have enabled iCloud sync, the app stores a copy of the database in your iCloud container. Retention follows your iCloud account and Apple’s policies. We do not control or access that data.
We do not retain your data on our own servers. We do not have a backend that receives or stores your stay history or location.
6. SHARING AND DISCLOSURE
We do not sell, rent, or trade your data.
We do not share your stay history, location, or settings with third parties for marketing or advertising.
We may disclose information only if required by law (e.g. court order, lawful request by a public authority) or when we believe in good faith that disclosure is necessary to protect our rights, your safety, or the safety of others. Any such disclosure would be limited to what is required.
7. THIRD-PARTY SERVICES AND INTEGRATIONS
• Operating system (iOS/Android): Location and geocoding are provided by the platform. Use is subject to the vendor’s privacy policies (Apple, Google).
• iCloud (Apple): If you use iCloud sync, your data is stored in your iCloud account under Apple’s terms and privacy policy. We do not receive or process that data on our servers.
• Local notifications: Delivered by the OS; we do not send your data to a notification service.
The app does not embed third-party advertising or analytics SDKs. It does not send data to social networks or other apps unless you explicitly share a file (e.g. the PDF) yourself.
8. INTERNATIONAL USE AND DATA TRANSFERS
NomadGuard is distributed globally. Your data is stored on your device and, if you use it, in your iCloud account. We do not transfer your data to servers we operate in other countries. If you use the app in a country outside your home jurisdiction, the same storage rules apply: data remains on your device or in your iCloud, and we do not access it.
9. SECURITY
We implement reasonable measures in the app to protect your data:
• Data is stored in a local database with access restricted to the app.
• Optional sync uses your iCloud container, which is protected by your Apple ID and Apple’s security.
• We do not transmit your stay history or location to our own servers, reducing exposure to interception or breach.
You are responsible for keeping your device and, if applicable, your iCloud account secure (e.g. passcode, two-factor authentication).
10. YOUR RIGHTS
Depending on your location, you may have rights such as:
• Access: You can see all your stay data and settings inside the app (e.g. footprint history, settings screens).
• Correction: You can edit entry/exit dates and other information in the app.
• Deletion: You can delete individual records in the app. To delete all data, you can clear the app’s data in system settings or uninstall the app. If you use iCloud sync, you may also need to remove the app’s data from iCloud (e.g. via iCloud settings).
• Export: You can generate a PDF report of your stays and save or share it yourself.
• Object or restrict: You can turn off location or notifications; the app will then not collect new location-based data or send alerts.
• Withdraw consent: You can revoke location or notification permission in your device settings at any time.
To exercise these rights, use the app and device settings as described. If you have a request that the app does not support (e.g. a formal data portability request), you may contact us using the details in section 14.
11. CHILDREN
NomadGuard is not directed at children under the age of 13 (or the applicable age in your country). We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has provided data through the app, please contact us and we will help you remove it.
12. CHANGES TO THIS PRIVACY POLICY
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time (e.g. for new features or legal requirements). The "Last updated" date at the top will be revised when we do. For significant changes, we may notify you in the app or via the app store listing. Continued use of the app after the effective date of changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy where permitted by law.
13. LANGUAGE AND REGIONAL VARIATIONS
This policy is provided in English as the primary version for global distribution. Where we provide translations, the English version prevails in case of conflict. Certain regions may have additional notices (e.g. EEA, California); we will add them as required.
14. CONTACT
If you have questions or concerns about this Privacy Policy or our handling of your data, or if you want to exercise your rights, please contact us:
[email: jiangtw2025@gmail.com]
We will respond to legitimate requests within a reasonable time, and in any event as required by applicable law.
